Even after a well done liposuction procedure, there are still a few required steps to take to foster quick, uncomplicated recovery. Sometimes due to inflammation in the fat tissue post-liposuction, hard knots may appear in the fat tissue of the treated area in the few weeks post-surgery. These nodules form due to dense inflammation and can persist for months after your liposuction surgery. The abdomen especially tends to be prone to knot formation, but aside from the aesthetic unpleasantness, you should not be alarmed if they appear, as they tend to soften up with time. The nodules tend to go away on their own accord, but massaging the site regularly can hasten the softening process.
If your post-liposuction nodules persist for longer than six months, it could possibly result from scar tissue that has developed that would ideally be approached with some cortisone injections. I suggest your surgeon injects a low-dose of cortisone into the nodules to soften and minimize the appearance of bumps. In my years of practice, I have never seen these nodules become permanent or require extensive medical attention.
